Program Description

The Health Careers Program utilizes competency-based instruction and practice to prepare students for entry level employment in the health care industry and for continued study in post-secondary health care fields. The program also provides career exploration through job shadowing experiences. The related course of study includes: anatomy & physiology, classification of disease and infection control, human growth and development, nutrition, home health care, common health problems and related care procedures, basic human needs, communication and observation, medical terminology, ethical/legal issues, general comfort measures, environmental safety, and American Red Cross certification training. This course also prepares students to be eligible to become certified nursing assistants and home health aides.

Program Philosophy

The Health Careers Program provides students with the opportunity to learn about careers in the field of health care and gives them the training and expertise necessary to work in the health care industry. Through classroom and clinical experiences, students learn about conditions of human health and disease and related treatment and care. The course prepares the students for certifications as nursing assistants and home health aides. It also provides a solid foundation for post-secondary study.
