Overview
The Electrical Technology program begins in the freshmen year. During the student's three years in the program, about half the time is spent doing hands on work, and half is spent in the classroom completing diagrams, taking notes, calculating electrical problems, referencing the Code Book and other activities that support hands-on-work.
The hands-on-work includes shop projects and extensive electrical work throughout the Tantasqua District. These activities offer the students real world experiences and help the towns conserve resources. Students are provided opportunities in both residential and commercial electrical work. Senior students also are exposed to industrial motor control concepts and applications in the program's State of the Art Motor Lab.
Upon graduation most students go directly into the world of work as qualified entry level apprentices. Tantasqua’s graduates are prepared and sought after by the electrical industry. About 3 1/2 years after completing the program the graduates are eligible to become licensed journeyman electricians. Some students continue their careers to become master electricians.
Many of the graduates continue their education at 2 year technical schools such as Springfield Technical Community College, Quinsigamond Community College, New England Institute of Technology and Benjamin Franklin Institute. Some graduates have entered 4 year schools such as Wentworth Institute, Fitchburg State University, Westfield State University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the University of Massachusetts.
The program is proud of its many successful graduates working within the electrical field in areas including engineering, aerospace, telecommunications, fire alarm and security systems, utility work, sales, electrical contracting, photovoltaic systems, municipal wiring inspectors, and even electrical instructors!
